Brandenburg Gate
first constructed in 1791, the Brandenburg Gate was commisioned by Friedrich
Wilhelm II
to represent peace. As it turns out the gate was incorporated into the Berlin
wall during
the years of Communist government. It now stands as a symbol of the reunification
of the two sides of this great city. It was here where President Ronald Reagan
said
those famous words, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
I took this photo in December 1991, a few months before I left Germany.
It still boggles my mind that I was actually in a place that has so much history.
By the way, that's a Christmas tree in the middle.
